Chelsea and Manchester United have both been active in the January transfer market in order to help Graham Potter and Erik ten Hag by bolstering their forward options. The Blues announced Joao Felix’s transfer to Stamford Bridge Yesterday, while the Red Devils are close to agreeing to a deal to bring Burnley’s imposingly forward Wout Weghorst to Old Trafford.
Felix has found it difficult recently, scoring only four goals in 20 performances for Atletico Madrid in all competitions, despite having a strained relationship with Diego Simeone, who is known for being a defensive coach.
The Dutch striker joined Burnley a year ago to replace Chris Wood, but he only managed two goals in 20 performances and struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League. Felix scored 15 goals in the league in 26 games in his debut season with Benfica but has yet to score in double figures in La Liga in his 4 seasons. Felix may have a better all-around game, but Weghorst’s time in Germany and Turkey has proven that he can score goals.
While Weghorst has the advantage in terms of pure goal-scoring, Felix possesses more to his game than just finding the inside of the net. While Weghorst only can play as a number nine, Felix can create more opportunities for his teammates.
