Wrexham has ended their 15-year absence from the Football League by earning promotion to League Two in the presence of their celebrity owners.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the actors who acquired the Wrexham club in November 2020, witnessed their team’s return to the Football League at the Racecourse Ground.
“I’m not sure I can process what happened, I’m still a little speechless. One thing that’s running through my head is that people said at the beginning, ‘Why Wrexham?’ This is exactly why Wrexham. What’s happening right now is why,” Reynolds said after the Wrexham versus Boreham Wood match.
Although Ryan was present at the Racecourse Ground, the limelight was on Wrexham forward Paul Mullin who played a pivotal role in securing the National League title with a 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood.
After its acquisition by Reynolds and McElhenney, the third oldest football club globally has garnered worldwide recognition and attracted a new fan base.
The club’s fame has reached such heights that even Paul Rudd, known for his role in Ant-Man, joined Wrexham fans at a pub before Saturday’s kick-off.
With only one game remaining in the current season against Torquay, Wrexham is set to play a friendly match against Manchester United in San Diego in July.
