West Ham and Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle to sign defender Harry Maguire in a deal worth over £30 million.
Personal terms are unlikely to be an issue, but there is still work to be done on the specifics of his departure from United.
Despite the fact that West Ham’s £20 million offer for the England international was turned down last month, they remain cautiously optimistic about finalizing the signing. Prior to Manchester United’s Premier League debut against Wolves on Monday night, Maguire practiced with the team on Wednesday morning.
Should United be able to acquire defenders to replace Maguire and Eric Bailly, whose representatives have spoken with Al Nassr, they have done their homework on a number of defenders, notably Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice.
German sources predict that if Maguire departs the team, Manchester United will try to sign Benjamin Pavard.
As Manchester United continues to research a variety of defenders, Pavard has reportedly emerged as a viable alternative.
The France international has long been aware that Bayern Munich wants him to depart. According to one report, Pavard wants to join United, and conversations are still going on.
The right-back, who can also play center-back, is in the final year of his contract and is anticipated to fetch between £30 million and £35 million. Previously, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Barcelona were mentioned in connection with him.
Kyle Walker of Manchester City was the player Pavard coveted from Bayern, but he decided to stay with the Premier League champions.
