Mikel Arteta has commended an independent regulatory commission for its decision not to penalize him for his impassioned remarks about the Newcastle VAR controversy.
The Arsenal manager faced an FA misconduct charge for labelling the decision to allow Anthony Gordon’s goal as “embarrassing” and a “disgrace” during the Premier League game against Newcastle on November 4.
Despite a VAR check on Joelinton’s push on Gabriel Magalhaes, Newcastle secured a 1-0 victory.
Arteta’s comments led to an FA charge, alleging his remarks were “insulting towards match officials and/or detrimental to the game and/or bring the game into disrepute.”
However, in a recent meeting, an independent commission found the charge unproven, acknowledging that Arteta did not intend to insult the match officials.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of Arsenal’s game against Brighton, Arteta praised the well-run process, emphasizing the need to draw a line and adopt a more constructive approach.
He expressed sympathy, highlighting the pressure managers face and the significance of game details, noting that 14 managers lost their jobs recently, underscoring the outcome’s importance.
When asked if he would repeat his comments, Arteta acknowledged the complexity of such decisions in life but reiterated his commitment to improving the game.
He emphasized the duty to engage in open discussions for the betterment of football, emphasizing the importance of constructive dialogue.
