Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney makes a move for Gareth Bale

Rob McElhenney, the co-owner of Wrexham, has playfully suggested that he may attempt to persuade Wales football legend Gareth Bale to return from retirement.

This came after Bale, the former Real Madrid star, congratulated Wrexham on their promotion to League Two.

Wrexham secured the National League title with a 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood on Saturday, officially ending Notts County’s chances of promotion to League Two, leaving them to fight for a promotion spot through the Play-Offs.

After Wrexham’s promotion to League Two, Gareth Bale sent a personal message to co-owner Rob McElhenney, congratulating him on the achievement and praising his efforts for the club.

McElhenney shared Bale’s message on Twitter, which was well-received by the actor. McElhenney then playfully invited the retired football star to a round of golf, where he joked he would attempt to convince Bale to return for one final season with Wrexham.

On Twitter, McElhenney said, “Hey @GarethBale11, let’s play golf, but I promise I won’t spend four hours trying to talk you out of retirement for one last magical season.”

If Wrexham were to successfully bring in Gareth Bale, regarded as Wales’ greatest player of all time, it would mark the second instance in the last year of a high-profile player “un-retiring” to play for the club.

In a bid to assist his former club, Ben Foster, a former goalkeeper for England, Watford, West Brom and Manchester United, came out of retirement to help Wrexham secure promotion.

Bale may also have the opportunity to reunite with his former Welsh teammate, Hal Robson-Kanu, who has expressed interest in returning from retirement to play for Wrexham and donate his wages to charity.
