The transfer window may have closed, but the Wolves have pulled off one of the deals of the January window with the signing of Craig Dawson from West Ham. Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the signing of experienced center-back Craig Dawson from West Ham United. The 32-year-old joins Wolves on a two-and-a-half-year contract and will be available for selection when they travel to Manchester City on Sunday, 22 Jan 2023.
Dawson spent much of his career with West Bromwich Albion, playing over 200 times for the Baggies before signing for David Moyes’ side in 2019. He was an integral part of West Ham’s qualification to the Europa League semi-finals last season, helping the Hammers to beat Sevilla, who were then managed by Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui.
The news of the transfer ends weeks of speculation, which saw Moyes publicly criticize Lopetegui for making his move in the defender public earlier this month. The one-time Great Britain international will be hoping to help the Black Country outfit build on their impressive start to the season, with Wolves currently 17th in the Premier League table.
The £3.3m fee paid by Wolves for Dawson’s services is an excellent bit of business by the club, who have acted quickly and decisively to add some much-needed defensive cover. The acquisition of Craig Dawson is an excellent piece of business by the Wolves and could prove to be a key signing in the club’s hunt for European football.
