Why Son Heung-min has been wearing a Mask at 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar

South Korea’s Son Heung-min has been wearing a black face mask from the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, despite fracturing his eye socket during a Champions League game against Marseille earlier in November. Heung-min’s determination and passion to be part of the World Cup could not be stopped, and his commitment to wearing the mask has been hailed by many.

Son’s injury was a major concern for the South Korean team, and there were worries that he may not be able to participate in the World Cup. The Tottenham winger underwent surgery soon after the injury and there were concerns about his involvement in Qatar. But Heung-min refused to miss the World Cup, saying “I won’t miss this for the world”, and was declared fit by manager Paulo Bento on the eve of South Korea’s opening match. Heung-min kept wearing the mask throughout the tournament, until they were knocked out in the last 16 by Brazil, in a 4-1 defeat.

Son Heung-min’s story is an inspiring one and is a reminder that no matter what the odds are if you have the passion and dedication to succeed, you can overcome any obstacle. He has scored 35 goals in 105 caps for South Korea and is a true leader for his country, and his face mask is a sign of his resilience and strength.
