The shooting incident during a football match in Ireland is being treated as an accidental occurrence, with authorities speculating that the footballer may have been hit by a stray bullet from nearby farmland.
The incident transpired during a game between Ballymackey and Rearcross in County Tipperary, part of the North Tipperary and District League.
The player, representing Rearcross, sustained a non-life-threatening injury to the arm. Thankfully, the 32-year-old has been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.
Both clubs, Rearcross and Ballymackey, have expressed their support for the affected player.
The Gardai have appealed for information from anyone who may have been hunting in the vicinity around 9 pm on Saturday night.
The sports venue’s proximity to farmland has led authorities to explore the possibility of an inadvertent gunshot.
Rearcross FC released a statement expressing shock and relief for the player’s well-being, while Ballymackey chairman George Haverty acknowledged the league’s provision of counselling for those affected by the incident.
