Todd Boehly, co-owner of Chelsea, has admitted to making “mistakes” during his first year with the Premier League team.
The American billionaire took over when Roman Abramovich’s 19-year rule ended in February 2022, when the Ukraine/Russia war broke out.
Boehly then went on an enormous buying spree to bring in new players and fired two managers.
The businessman’s first full season in English football will end without a trophy, as the squad is unable to clinch European football for next season. With his aggressive expenditures, the optimism and high hopes for a brilliant future that Boehly’s takeover will herald at Stamford Bridge have already been replaced with discontent among supporters.
Things got worse during last weekend’s 2-1 home loss to Brighton when he was accosted by several disgruntled fans in the stands.
According to Bloomberg, Boehly said he had made mistakes while speaking to Goldman Sachs Group Inc and investment banker Anthony Gutman at a private event at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, where he outlined his long-term strategy for the club.
