Tears of Joy for South Korea as they secure Spot in Knockout Stages of Qatar 2022 World Cup

The Qatar 2022 World Cup drew to a close with an exciting finish in Group H. Portugal, South Korea, Uruguay, and Ghana were all vying for a place in the knockout stages, with Portugal emerging as the group victors. The final group match between South Korea and Portugal ended with a 2-1 win for South Korea. The match started off with Portugal taking the lead early in the match, courtesy of Ricardo Horta’s goal assisted by Diogo Dalot in the 5th minute.

Just when it seemed like Portugal would be able to hold on to the lead. South Korea made a dramatic comeback in the second half. Kim Young-Gwon scored the equalizer in the 27th minute, and just before the final whistle, Hwang Hee-Chan’s goal assisted by Tottenham star Son Heung-ming in the 90+1 minute sealed the deal for South Korea. At the same time, Uruguay defeated Ghana 2-0 with goals from Giorgian De Arrascaeta in the first half, who scored in the 26th and 32nd minutes. Andrew Ayew also had a chance to lead Ghana to victory as he missed a penalty kick.

The result of the match meant that South Korea would advance to the knockout stages of the World Cup, sending Uruguay home.
