Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal coach, is keen to hold talks with West Ham’s midfielder, Declan Rice, at the end of the season in a bid to convince him to move to the Emirates.
Despite Arsenal’s underwhelming performance this season, Arteta is increasingly confident that the club can secure Rice’s signature, who has rejected multiple offers for a new deal with the Hammers.
The 24-year-old England international, who has 41 caps for his country, has expressed his desire to play in the Champions League and is interested in staying in London.
Arteta, who himself used to play in midfield, is optimistic that he can persuade Rice to join Arsenal and help the club in their quest to regain their former glory.
The Gunners have failed to land Moises Caicedo and Mykhaylo Mudryk in January, and are now looking to bolster their midfield with a player of Rice’s calibre.
With Arsenal’s qualification for next season’s Champions League, the club has become a more attractive destination for Rice.
Despite West Ham’s struggles this season, Rice has put in some impressive performances, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 33 appearances.
He has also been instrumental in the Hammers’ run to the Europa Conference League semifinals.
While West Ham’s head of recruitment, Rob Newman, is reportedly scouting for Rice’s replacement, Arsenal is believed to be the preferred destination for the midfielder.
Will Rice quit West Ham?
The Gunners are reportedly willing to make a huge transfer move for Rice, who is currently valued at £100million.
Arteta is confident that Arsenal’s financial muscle and the prospect of playing in the Champions League could be a convincing argument for Rice.
The midfielder’s desire to play in Europe’s premier club competition could also work in Arsenal’s favour.
However, whether West Ham will be willing to sell their prized asset remains to be seen. Rice is one of the most talented young midfielders in the Premier League and losing him could be a major blow to the Hammers.
Nevertheless, with Arsenal’s financial backing and Arteta’s persuasive abilities, a deal for Rice could be on the horizon.
