Newcastle’s bet on Tonali: From transfer deal to betting ban

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali faces a new challenge as he deals with allegations of breaching FA betting rules.

The 23-year-old, who joined the Premier League side from AC Milan last summer, has been charged with misconduct for allegedly placing 50 bets on football matches earlier this season.

This comes as Tonali is already serving a 10-month ban for similar offences during his time in Italy.

Despite the charges, Newcastle United has expressed its support for Tonali, stating that he continues to fully comply with the investigations.

The club emphasized that they stand behind him during this process. Tonali, who signed with Newcastle in a £55 million transfer deal, has until April 5, 2024, to respond to the allegations.

Tonali’s agent, Guiseppe Riso, revealed in October that the player is struggling with a gambling addiction. Riso highlighted Tonali’s determination to overcome this challenge and praised Newcastle for their ongoing support.
