LeBron James has surpassed Kareem Abdul-34-year Jabbar’s record as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, thanks to a stunning performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Los Angeles.
Fans paid thousands of dollars to secure a seat at Crypto.com Arena to witness history, and James did not disappoint, putting on a show to seal the record while Abdul-Jabbar watched from courtside.
James started the game against Oklahoma City needing 36 points to break Abdul-1989 Jabbar’s record of 38,387.
With 10.9 seconds remaining in the third quarter, the King broke the record with a trademark fadeaway dagger. He had 38 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in the game.
Following the record-breaking shot, James walked away with his hands in the air before being surrounded by teammates and, eventually, his sons, Bronny and Bryce, as well as his wife, Savannah.
The game between the Lakers and the Thunder, which the Thunder eventually won 133-130, was stopped to honor the occasion.
As social media went wild, NBA commissioner Adam Silver grabbed a microphone to honor James alongside Abdul-Jabbar, who presented James with the ceremonial basketball.
