However, their hopes of an equalizer were dashed when Dumfries scored an 81st minute goal, assisted by Blind. Netherlands’ 3-1 victory sends them into the quarter-finals, with Dumfries being the standout performer on the night with two assists and a goal, and his performance will no doubt go down in history.
It was a fantastic performance from the Dutch team and they can now look forward to the next round of the tournament with confidence. It was a great display of attacking football and it is clear that Netherlands are one of the teams to beat in this World Cup.
