Ferdinand Omanyala, who has been in excellent form all season, set yet another record-breaking time on Friday, winning the opening heat of the 100-meter race at the Athletics Kenya Track Meet at the Nyayo National Stadium in a world-beating 9.86 seconds.
Omanyala had returned from a trip to France, where he twice broke the 60-meter indoor record for Kenya. This was his first competitive 100-meter race of the year.
In a further demonstration of what is in store for him this season, he was unstoppable and in the lead from start to end.

His entry for the event was supported by his stellar performance in France.
By winning the Lievin World Indoor Tour in 6.54, he shattered the 60-meter national record. The victory came a week after he set a new national record in winning the men’s 60-meter event at the Mondeville World Indoor Tour in 6.55 seconds.
Omanyala went on to emphasize the value of the World Indoor Tour by mentioning how it has improved his off-the-mark starting technique.
Omanyala said
“We came here to do business; we never came to joke. The plan was to get it right from the heat. We’ll see about tomorrow (running another sub-10), I don’t want to promise anything,”
