Josip Juranovic has completed his move to Union Berlin after the German side agreed to pay Celtic a fee of up to £10m in a deal that could rise to £7.5m plus add-ons. The 27-year-old had been heavily linked with a move away from Glasgow this January, with Chelsea, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid all reportedly interested in signing the highly-rated right-back. Despite Celtic’s efforts to tie Juranovic to a new contract, the Croatian international decided to move in search of a new challenge and a chance to compete in one of the world’s leading leagues.
Juranovic joined the Celtic in August 2021 for a reported fee of £2.5m and became a crucial part of the club’s title-winning side and the National team’s run to the semi-finals of the Qatar World Cup, where they eventually lost to Argentina.
The loss of Juranovic is a significant blow to Celtic, but the club has wished their departing defender all the best in his future career. The Bundesliga side is currently sitting in third place, 5 points behind Bayern Munich, and will hope that Juranovic’s arrival will help them close the gap on the Bavarian giants. Juranovic is set to make his Union Berlin debut later this month and will look to make a significant impact in the Bundesliga.
