Brighton’s winger Kaoru Mitoma faces a disappointing end to the season as manager Roberto De Zerbi confirmed he will miss the remainder of the campaign due to a back injury.
Mitoma, who had recently returned from an ankle injury and Asia Cup duty, suffered the setback during Brighton’s 1-1 draw with Everton.
De Zerbi expressed his concern, stating that Mitoma’s absence is a “bad situation” and that the winger is expected to be sidelined for two to three months, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the season.
Mitoma’s absence is a significant blow to Brighton’s ambitions, as he had shown promising form since his return, notably featuring in Brighton’s recent matches.
Despite this setback, Brighton remains focused on their pursuit of European football, currently sitting in seventh place in the Premier League.
The team is also in the last 16 of the Europa League and is set to face Roma next month. Additionally, they are preparing for an FA Cup last 16 clash against Wolves.
Mitoma’s absence will be felt, but Brighton will be looking to rally and finish the season strongly in his absence.
