Football’s lawmakers, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), have decided to postpone the publication of details regarding sin-bin trials, including the potential introduction of blue cards, until next month.
Originally scheduled for release on Friday, the protocols for sin-bin trials and measures aimed at addressing poor player behavior will now undergo further deliberation at IFAB’s annual general meeting on March 2nd at Loch Lomond.
While sin-bins have been effectively utilized in grassroots football for some time, IFAB expressed a readiness to explore their implementation at higher levels during their annual business meeting in November.
The proposed trials would involve issuing blue cards to players for dissent and tactical fouls, similar to instances seen in high-profile matches like Giorgio Chiellini’s infamous foul on Bukayo Saka during the Euro 2020 final.
