Goncalo Ramos, who replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up, scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute, with an assist from Joao Felix. He then scored again just after six minutes to half-time with an assist from Bruno Fernandes from a corner. His third goal came in the 51st minute, again with an assist from Joao Felix.
The game was a masterclass in attacking football from Portugal, who have set up a quarter-finals game against Morocco. Morocco will be hoping to provide another massive upset after they beat Spain on penalties to get to the last eight. Goncalo Ramos’ hat trick will certainly be remembered for a long time, as it was the first of the tournament and the first for Portugal in the 2022 World Cup.
