Contrary to popular belief, Mason Mount’s tale and the circumstances surrounding his Chelsea deal are much more complicated.
From the outside, it is simple to assume that if the contract dispute isn’t addressed right away and proceedings are taking too long, the player may be demanding too much money. There is a lot more to it in this instance, though.
Finally, it appeared as though Mount and Chelsea had made some concessions to lengthen the 24-year-old’s tenure at the club. Once such an agreement was reached with the athlete and his representatives, the Blues were eager themselves.
Following the conclusion of the World Cup, when England was eliminated by France in the quarterfinal round, encounters resumed. However, the club’s internal organization changed slightly as a result of the addition of new transfer team members like Paul Winstanley, Joe Shields, and Christopher Vivell. Boehly and Eghbali took a step back from the day-to-day operations.
Mount and his crew thought they were close to reaching an agreement and extending the contract, but when he returned from the World Cup, the offer had vanished. Things appeared to be dead at this point until the January transfer window arrived and another major development occurred.
They tried to prolong Mount’s contract and raise his compensation on several occasions between the end of January and the beginning of February. However, the player was only interested in a one-year contract.
Then, in the last month or two, Boehly met with Mount to talk about the situation and, more importantly, to check in on the player. However, considering the possibility of giving his contract a 12-month extension, no contract offer has been offered.
Chelsea promptly started looking for a new permanent head coach after Graham Potter was fired last month. Before negotiations with Mauricio Pochettino started, Julian Nagelsmann was the early front-runner. Two managers, including Pochettino, insisted that Mount must remain because he was essential to their plans. In that regard, Chelsea was somewhat supporting their efforts to retain the England international.
On Sunday, Mount strolled around the Stamford Bridge field for what might have been his final time as a Chelsea player, and he undoubtedly appeared upset. Although nothing has been decided, it appears more likely that his time in West London may be coming to an end with each day that passes.
