Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne fell victim to a burglary on Saturday when a gang targeted his mansion in Zandstraat, east Belgium.
Although no one was harmed during the incident, the burglars made off with several items from the expansive property spanning approximately 70 acres.
The robbery occurred between 4 pm and 9 pm, with De Bruyne’s wife, Michele Lacroix, discovering that the house had been broken into.
Fortunately, the midfielder was away with Manchester City’s squad in Saudi Arabia for the Club World Cup, leaving the property unoccupied at the time of the burglary.
De Bruyne acquired the land in the hamlet near Zolder in 2015 and completed construction of the house, characterized by white natural stone and featuring a swimming pool, in February 2019.
The local prosecutor’s office revealed that the perpetrators had ransacked the property, and initial assessments indicate that jewellery was the primary target.
An official from the prosecutor’s office stated, “Everything was turned upside down, so it is not yet entirely clear what the exact disadvantage is.”
The investigation is ongoing, with forensic experts conducting a trace investigation, and further inquiries using cameras and neighbourhood outreach will follow to determine the burglars’ identities.
