Chelsea has made their second major signing of the January transfer window after completing a £26.3m deal for Malo Gusto from French club Lyon. The 19-year-old right-back joins the Blues on a seven-and-a-half-year contract and will return to France on loan for the remainder of the season.
Gusto has been a regular for Lyon this season, making 15 appearances in Ligue 1. The young defender has been highly rated by Lyon manager Laurent Blanc, who had previously said that the board had promised him Gusto could be at the club for the remaining EPL games.
Gusto will now be looking forward to the chance to make his mark in the Premier League, and Chelsea fans will be hoping that the young defender can help their side push on in the second half of the season.
The signing of Gusto is a further indication of Chelsea’s intent to challenge for the title this season, with the club currently 10th in the table, 21 points behind leaders Arsenal and 10 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.
The Blues will be hoping that the addition of the talented youngster can help the club close the gap on their rivals and push for a top-four finish.
