Carabao Cup prize Money : Man Utd beat Newcastle 2-0 in Wembley Cup final on Sunday

Manchester United has won their first trophy since 2017, but they will only receive £100,000 in prize money for their efforts.

Newcastle United’s hearts were broken by first-half goals from star midfielder Casemiro and the unstoppable Marcus Rashford, assisted by a heavy deflection off Sven Botman, with Eddie Howe’s team earning only £50,000 for their efforts.

That will barely cover half a week’s pay for one of their highest earners, as the financial value of the secondary domestic knockout competition was placed in stark contrast to what can be banked elsewhere. However, the clubs will have split the gate receipts at Wembley, where 87,306 fans had gathered.

Nottingham Forest and Southampton earned £25,000 each despite losing the two-legged semifinals.

The four defeated quarterfinalists and every other competitor received nothing in prize money, despite the fact that all rounds use the identical gate receipts methodology. The money that each of the winners will earn if they secure top-four finishes in the league puts the competition’s lack of financial worth into even sharper perspective.

The domestic prize money for placing third ($39.6 million) and fourth ($37.4 million) in the domestic competition is worth around £13.2 million to Champions League clubs.

Man United is comfortably in third place, while Newcastle is four points behind Spurs with two games remaining.
