Manchester United qualified for the Carabao Cup Final after a comprehensive 5-0 aggregate victory over Nottingham Forest.
A 2-0 victory at Old Trafford in the second leg saw the Red Devils through, with goals coming late in the second half from Anthony Martial and Fred.
United have been in fine form this season and have been a force to be reckoned with in the Carabao Cup, with their semi-final victory over Forest evidence of that.
After a dominating performance in the first leg at the City Ground, the Red Devils completed the job at Old Trafford with two late goals to seal their spot in the final.
It was a quiet first half until both teams had their chances just before the break.
Forest had their chance when Brennan Johnson set up Emmanuel Dennis, but his shot was saved by his teammate Sam Surridge. United then had their chance when Casemiro crossed for Weghorst, but his header hit the post.
With the tie all but wrapped up, United manager Erik ten Hag opted to make a few changes, bringing on Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford on the hour, as well as Jadon Sancho, who was making his first appearance since October 22.
The changes paid off as Martial fired in United’s first of the night in 73 minutes, beating Wayne Hennessy from close range. A few minutes later, Rashford had a beautiful pass to Fred, who scored the second goal.
The victory over Forest means that Ten Hag now has the opportunity to claim the first piece title in his debut season with the club, which would end a six-year wait since United’s last trophy in the 2017 Europa League under Jose Mourinho.
United will face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final, with the Red Devils favorites to lift the trophy.
It promises to be an exciting final that could see United add another trophy to their cabinet and complete their impressive season.
