Arsenal go seven points clear at the top after a great second half Comeback against Westham

With a 3-1 victory over West Ham, Arsenal mounted an incredible comeback to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League on a night when former Gunners manager Arsene Wenger made his first trip back to the Emirates Stadium since leaving the team in 2018.

Wenger, who spent 22 years at Arsenal, made no secret of the fact that leaving the club was tough for him and stated he had no intention of going back to support his old team.

After the break, the Gunners needed to respond, and they did so admirably. Two goals in five minutes from Bukayo Saka (53) and Gabriel Martinelli (58) put Wenger’s face on cloud nine, and Eddie Nketiah, who was starting in place of Gabriel Jesus for Arsenal, capped off a fantastic evening for Mikel Arteta’s team (69).

With the win, Arsenal jumps seven points ahead of second-placed Newcastle, who earlier on Boxing Day defeated Leicester 3-0. Third-placed Man City will have the chance to catch up when they visit Leeds on Wednesday.

West Ham, who lost for the fourth time in a row, is still in 16th place.
