With a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park, Liverpool moved up to sixth place in the Premier League standings.
After just five minutes, Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead, and Jurgen Klopp’s team increased their advantage late in the half when Virgil van Dijk’s strike was deflected into the far corner of the goal. Villa, however, made a comeback attempt in the second half.
In a game that was extremely open, Ollie Watkins’ wonderfully placed header cut the lead in half. Darwin Nunez was particularly wasteful, but chances continued to pour at both ends. However, Liverpool’s first point was secured by substitute Stefan Bajcetic, who scored his first goal at the senior level.
Unai Emery suffered his first Premier League loss after taking over for Steven Gerrard, but there were still some gains for the Spaniard. Going head-to-head with Salah and the rest, however, always seemed risky because of how strong this Liverpool squad is.
