Rob Edwards part ways with Watford after 10 Premier League games

Rob Edwards, the manager of Watford, has been fired after only 10 league games in charge of the team, which is now outside the Championship play-off spots.

After the Hornets were demoted from the Premier League, Edwards only took over as manager at Vicarage Road over the summer. Roy Hodgson had previously held the position. The club moved swiftly to appoint a replacement as well; minutes after Edwards’ firing was announced, Slaven Bilic was named the new manager.

The appointment of Bilic comes just in time for the Hornets’ upcoming league match against Stoke City after the break, where a victory might be enough to put them back in the play-off positions. The coaching staff for the incoming manager would be announced at a later time, according to a statement from Watford.

Edwards, who earned 15 caps for Wales during his playing career, was hired after guiding Forest Green Rovers to League Two promotion the previous year. He was fired, though, after losing to MK Dons at home in the EFL Cup and struggling to gain momentum in the league.

His squad lost a late equalizer by Jewison Bennette in his final game in charge, a 2-2 draw against Sunderland at home.
