Brentford’s ‘stay strong’ message to Toney suitors

Brentford’s steadfast refusal to part ways with star striker Ivan Toney during the January transfer window speaks volumes about the club’s evolution, according to manager Thomas Frank.

Despite acknowledging Brentford’s status as a “selling” club, Frank emphasized the significance of retaining Toney, whose prowess on the pitch had attracted interest from top Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

The 27-year-old forward, returning from an eight-month ban for violating FA betting rules, showcased his goal-scoring prowess last season with 20 Premier League goals in 33 appearances.

Frank, resolute in keeping Toney, declared that only an “unbelievable” offer would prompt his departure. The manager’s confidence in retaining Toney materialized on deadline day, with Frank announcing, “Ivan will stay.”

Frank acknowledges the financial aspects of football, recognizing the club’s strategy of nurturing young talent, developing players, and, eventually, selling them for profit.

However, he underlines the club’s commitment to creating a platform for talented players to flourish and contribute to Brentford’s journey, expressing hope for future success.
