Tottenham Hotspur’s star forward Son Heung-min has reportedly been offered a staggering £100 million to join Saudi Arabian champions Al-Ittihad, as the Gulf state aims to establish itself as a major force in global football.
This follows the recent signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and the anticipated arrivals of N’Golo Kante and Ruben Neves in the Saudi Pro League.
Al-Ittihad, who secured the Saudi title last season by defeating Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, is said to be preparing an initial bid of around €60 million (£51 million) for Son’s services.
In addition to the substantial transfer fee, Al-Ittihad has presented Son with an enticing four-year contract that would see him earn €30 million (£25.6 million) per season.
While there is confidence in the Middle East that the 30-year-old South Korean forward could be enticed by the offer, Tottenham is unwilling to entertain any offers, as Son is currently under contract until 2025.
For new Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, losing Son would be a significant setback, especially as he is already facing challenges in retaining the club’s captain, Harry Kane.
Son, who joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, has been an instrumental figure in Tottenham’s attack, having scored an impressive 145 goals and provided 80 assists in 372 games.
He has shown no indication of wanting to leave North London during this summer transfer window.
In April, Son expressed his commitment to Tottenham, declaring that he has a few more years to play at the top level and expressing his ambition to climb higher in the club’s all-time top goalscorers list.
His departure would undoubtedly be a major blow for Spurs, who rely heavily on his contributions on the pitch.
