On Sunday afternoon, Arsenal defeated Newcastle United 2-0 to maintain their slim chances of winning the Premier League championship this year.
A goal from Martin Odegaard in the first half and an own goal from Fabian Schar in the second helped Mikel Arteta’s team close the gap on league leaders Manchester City to one point, though Pep Guardiola’s team still has a game in hand over their rivals for the title. With only three weeks left before the end of the season, the Gunners are now assured of placing at least second thanks to their victory on Tyneside.
Brighton 14th May
The north Londoners’ subsequent match is a home encounter versus seventh-place Brighton. On New Year’s Eve, Arsenal defeated the Seagulls 4-2 at the Amex Stadium, but Roberto De Zerbi’s team was missing crucial midfielders Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister on that occasion.
The last time the Gunners welcomed Brighton to the Emirates, they had a terrible day, losing 3-1 in the Carabao Cup matchup between the two teams in N7 back in November 2022.
Nottingham Forest 20th May
Arsenal’s next away game is against relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest, who will be fighting for their Premier League position when the two clubs meet at the City Ground in just under two weeks.
Steve Cooper and co were beaten 5-0 in the reverse encounter in north London back in October, although they upset Arteta’s men 1-0 when they hosted the North Londoners in the FA Cup last season.
Wolves 28th May
Arsenal will be anxious to keep their title ambitions alive when they meet Wolves at the Emirates in the season finale. If City slips up before then, we might be in for a tight final day if the Gunners win their other two matches before this one.
Arteta’s side has won the last three meetings with Wolves, who are unlikely to have anything to play for by the time they travel to the city.
