Liverpool started the match brightly and took the lead in the 11th minute through a well-worked goal from Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian forward showed great composure to finish after being set up by Darwin Núñez. Just 29 minutes later, Salah struck again. Tottenham frequently exposes Liverpool’s defensive shortcomings, but despite this, an equalizer eluded them as Ivan Perisic struck the post from a cut-back from Ryan Sessegnon, Dier had a header saved, and Harry Kane nearly took the ball from Alisson, giving him a clear chance on goal. Tottenham didn’t give up though.
In the 70th minute, Harry Kane scored off an assist from Dejan Kulusevski. However, it wasn’t enough as Liverpool went on to win the match 2-1. This is a big boost for Liverpool and they will be hoping to build on this win in their next match.
Having won, Liverpool has moved up to eighth in the Premier League, passing Fulham and Crystal Palace. Had they suffered a third straight league loss, the Reds’ deficit from Spurs, who lost the chance to retake third place from Newcastle, might have been 13 points, but it is now just seven points. Tottenham, on the other hand, were disappointed with the result as they had the chance to move up to third place. Despite this, they remain in fourth place and will be looking to get back to winning ways in their next match.
