Manchester United reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a dramatic 3-1 win over Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Red Devils had been trailing for much of the game after Aleksandar Mitrovic had opened the scoring for the away side, but a series of quickfire red cards for Fulham changed the course of the game.
Willian was the first to be sent off after he handled the ball as Jadon Sancho attempted to round Bernd Leno. It allowed Bruno Fernandes to level the score from the penalty spot, and the Portuguese playmaker added a second goal late to seal the win. But Marcel Sabitzer’s clever finish proved the decisive moment, as his strike put United in front and closed their place in the last four.
The game had been a tightly fought contest for the opening half, with both sides creating chances but failing to turn them into goals. But Fulham eventually made the breakthrough, as Mitrovic turned in a flick-on from Issa Diop to give the visitors the lead. However, Fulham’s joy was short-lived, as their discipline deserted them in the second half.
Willian’s red card sparked a collapse from the away side, as coach Marco Silva and Mitrovic were dismissed for their part in the altercation. They were left with nine men on the pitch, and United took full advantage, with Fernandes and Sabitzer finding the net to secure the victory.
