Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, predicted that Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk will continue to “become better and better” after both players excelled in the 3-1 Premier League victory at Leicester City on Saturday.
At King Power Stadium, Chelsea defeated the Foxes to earn their third straight win across all competitions. After Patson Daka had leveled the score for Leicester with a spectacular volley by Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz restored the lead late in the first half. The three points were then earned in the second half by Mateo Kovacic.
Chilwell ignited the first half’s mayhem with a flawless volley from inside the Leicester area that beat Ward at his near post. The former Leicester left-back enjoyed celebrating in front of the home crowd, who jeered every move he and Wesley Fofana made.
In the 65th minute, Harry Souttar’s close-range attempt was cleared off the line by replacement Conor Gallagher, giving Leicester a chance to score another equalizer. Dewsbury-Hall also missed a clear opportunity from inside the six-yard box for the home team before Mudryk had what would have been his first Chelsea goal disallowed for offside after slipping the ball past Ward.
However, Mudryk was crucial in Chelsea’s third goal, deflecting Havertz’s cross so that Kovacic could go in and score. After Faes surged in and was given a second yellow, Brendan Rodgers’ team from Leicester was reduced to just one point above the relegation zone.
